Dining
The main con is that some areas are too small for the number of guests on the ship, especially the Mardi Gras theater, Punchliner comedy club, and the limelight lounge. The entertainment department tries to alleviate this by presenting multiple shows around the ship simultaneously. The biggest Carnival cruise ship is Carnival Jubilee, followed by Carnival Celebration and then Mardi Gras.

While sailing on Mardi Gras in late October, I asked executives, journalists, crew members, and dozens of guests to name one or two “don’t miss” experiences on board. The casino is open day and night while at sea, so go ahead, pull the lever and go all in. Whether you’ve got a convincing poker face, feel like doubling down on blackjack, or want to whoop it up at the craps table, Carnival has a game for you. Mardi Gras entered service on July 31, 2020, from her homeport of Port Canaveral.
CCL-Carnival Cruise Line to welcome new Excel-class ship in Spring 2027
To accommodate Mardi Gras in her new homeport, Port Canaveral in Florida needed to build a new terminal. The new Terminal 3 became the largest project in the port’s history, at an estimated cost of US$163 million. In the summer of 2020, the two-story, 188,000 square foot terminal was completed and ready for Mari Gras.
Somebody at Carnival knows just what you need, and it's pretty much exactly the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat™. Look, you'll still be on the same ship as the kids, the hoopla, and all the Carnival-style excitement... But you could easily forget, because when you're at Serenity you could not be further from it all. The world you'll find yourself in is one of complete peace, sea breezes and, of course, a nearby bar.
The cabanas are fully-stocked with beverages, chilled towels, plush bathrobes and provide dedicated concierge service with lunch delivery and fresh fruits. Carnival Excel Suite passengers enjoy priority cabana reservations. The ship has a Japanese specialty restaurant (named Bonsai Teppanyaki) located within the Bonsai Sushi restaurant (on Promenade-Havana Deck). The restaurant offers authentic Far East dishes and a live cooking show performance (by the chefs) at custom-built cooking stations positioned at the center of an 8-seat dining table. Each meal at Bonsai Teppanyaki starts with a sampling of 5 appetizers (Miso Soup, Pork Belly Yakitori, Spicy Tuna on Rocks). Each meal ends with the specialty desserts "Chocolate Bento Box" and "Green Tea Ice Cream".
JUNIOR BALCONY
Among the menu of Crescent City mainstays, we suggeststarting off with a true connoisseur’s local favorite … the Brandy Crusta. Ok, a few places — get ready for six distinct onboard zones featuring brand-new experiences for spectacularly getting down to food, drink and fun. Mardi Gras boasts the line's ultimate playground with the line's biggest WaterWorks, complete with three huge spiraling slides. Boasting a huge sports area with an entire mini-golf course, a ropes course and full-court basketball, it provides ideal spots for family time.
(Enough USB charging ports for everybody’s stuff? Oh yes!) Thoughtful, guest-centric design is how we do it… and all this in-room convenience comes paired with a fresh new look. These suites are located on Decks 10, 11 and 12, offer areas for dining and relaxing as well as a spacious balcony with loungers and dining space. If you’re hoping for a little extra pampering on your cruise, a Cloud 9 Spa stateroom allows quick and easy access to Cloud 9 Spa, where you can whisk yourself away to total relaxation. Cloud 9 Spa staterooms are decorated in relaxing, spa-inspired colors. Perfect for couples or solo cruisers looking for the ultimate in luxury. Other highlights include the casino, which is by far the largest on Carnival, taking up a significant portion of Deck 7.
Menu items include muffuletta sandwiches, oyster and cochon de lait po-boys, gumbo, jambalaya, side dishes (Creole potato salad with diced scallions, red beans, jazz-man rice), desserts (Bananas Foster, lemon icebox pie). For Breakfast are also offered Shrimp & Grits, and Shrimp Creole Omelet. A-la-carte menu appetizers cost US$2 each, entrees are priced at US$12. Aft Suites have large wrap-around balconies with impressive ocean views, as well as a private, outdoor tub and space for relaxation. One downside to the Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship is that while there are lots of venues, some are too small to handle a rush.
